Beginning Wednesday, construction zone areas will be open when
possible for normal traffic patterns and will remain open until
midnight Sunday. However, there will be construction zones
throughout the state that will continue to have lane closures
because of the type of work under way. The Department of
Transportation is urging motorists to slow down and drive with
caution through these zones. Holiday travelers are reminded that
work zone speed limits are still in effect.
In the greater Chicago area, all lanes on the Edens, Eisenhower,
Kennedy, Stevenson, Dan Ryan and Bishop Ford expressways, as well as
interstates 80 and 57, will be open, except for locations identified
below.
Areas that will continue to have lane closures are as follows:
Bond County
- Illinois Route140 will be closed in both the eastbound and
westbound directions at the Shoal Creek and Indian Creek
structures, located west of Greenville. This road closure is
necessary to perform bridge beam replacement. A signed detour
route and message boards are in place to direct the traveling
public.
Christian County
- Illinois Route 48 at Stonington -- Culvert replacement. One
lane of traffic, controlled by temporary traffic signals.
Cook County
- Grinding and hot patching on Lake Shore Drive and U.S. 41
from Illinois Route 19 and Irving Park Road to Foster in
Chicago. Northbound and southbound lanes are affected.
- Torrence Avenue, Route 83 at Kingery, I-80-94
-- Roadway and interchange reconstruction in Lansing. There will
be two lanes in each direction before Thanksgiving, with bridge,
ramp and median work continuing.
- Bishop Ford -- Reconstruction in South Holland. Two lanes in
each direction from 159th to I-80. Ramp from northbound Ford to
159th closed. Ramp from southbound Ford to eastbound Kingery
reduced to one lane.
- Illinois 394 -- Reconstruction in Thornton and Lansing. One
lane in each direction between Glenwood-Lansing Road and I-80.
Northbound 394 to eastbound I-80 and northbound I-294 is closed,
with detour posted.
- Kingery -- Reconstruction in Lansing, Thornton, South
Holland, Hammond and Munster -- Three lanes in each direction,
with some narrow lanes and lane shifts from U.S. 41 and Calumet
Avenue in Indiana to I-94. Two lanes in each direction from I-94
to I-80-294, Tri-State Tollway. Ramp from eastbound I-80,
southbound I-294 to westbound I-94 and Bishop Ford closed, with
detour posted.
- Dan Ryan Expressway -- Roadway reconstruction and
resurfacing in Chicago. Left-lane closures on State from 71st to
87th and Lafayette from 71st to 99th-Wentworth Avenue.
Northbound Halsted entrance ramp, northbound 87th entrance ramp,
northbound 75th entrance and 71st exit will be closed.
Southbound Wentworth exit ramp, southbound 87th exit ramp,
southbound 75th exit and 71st entrance ramps will be closed.
76th Street bridge will be closed. All four ramps at
55th-Garfield and at 47th will be open. Southbound 59th exit and
northbound 59th entrance ramps are permanently closed.
Southbound and northbound entrances and exits for 59th and 63rd
will be closed. Left lane and full closures on Wentworth and
Wells from 63rd to 47th. Southbound and northbound 51st Street
exit and entrance ramps are permanently closed. Northbound 39th
entrance, northbound 35th exit, southbound 35th entrance and
southbound 39th exit will be closed.
- Dan Ryan, Skyway -- Reconstruction at State Street. Exit
from westbound Skyway ramp will be closed.
- Kennedy Expressway -- Reconstruction at left and right
shoulder closures at Nagle.
- Route 53 from Army Trail Road to Route 64-North Avenue --
Widening and resurfacing in Addison. One lane in each direction.
- Palatine, Willow Road -- Bridge reconstruction in Wheeling
and Prospect Heights. Express lanes closed at Route 83 and at
Route 21-Milwaukee Avenue bridge.
- Palatine, U.S. 12 to U.S. 45-Illinois 21 -- Variable width
milling and bituminous concrete surface on Palatine Road from
U.S. 12 to U.S. 45-Illinois 21 in Arlington.
- Oak Park Avenue from Route 38 to Route 64 -- Resurfacing in
Oak Park. One lane in each direction.
- U.S. 12-45 and Mannheim Road over I-90 -- Bridge replacement
and road and ramp reconstruction. One lane in each direction.
- Lockwood Avenue from 167th to 174th Street -- Pavement
reconstruction in Oak Forest. One lane in each direction.
- Grand Avenue -- Relocation of two IHB Railroad tracks 1,000
feet east to share the right of way with CN and cross Grand
Avenue at a single location on a new three-track bridge over a
new depressed roadway in Franklin Park. One lane in each
direction. Detour is posted.
- Oak Park Avenue from 111th to 115th Street -- Roadway
reconstruction, curb and gutter, storm sewer in Worth. One lane
in each direction.
DuPage County
- U.S. 20 and Lake Street from Illinois Route 53 to Addison
Road -- Reconstruction in Addison. One lane in each direction.

Effingham County
- I-57 and 70, mile marker 158 -- Bridge replacement. Two
narrow lanes open in each direction.
- I-57 and 70, mile marker 160 -- Interchange work. North,
eastbound shoulder closed.
Kane County
- Main Street bridge over the west branch of the DuPage River,
between Walter Street and Chicago Avenue -- Removal and
reconstruction of bridge in Carpentersville. Road is closed.

- Main Street bridge over the Fox River -- Removal and
reconstruction of bridge in Carpentersville. Road is closed.
Detour is posted.
- Bridge over Big Rock Creek, Granart Road from Jericho Road
to Rhodes Road -- Removal and reconstruction of bridge in Big
Rock. Bridge is closed. Detour is posted.
Lake County
- Fairfield Road and Ivanhoe Road -- Intersection widening
with pedestrian underpass in Wauconda. One lane in each
direction.
- Route 173 over Piscasaw Creek overflow -- Deck beam
replacement in Chemung. Shoulder is closed on westbound Route
137.
- South Street over U.S. 14 -- Bridge repairs, removal,
replacement of superstructure, abutments, slope walls, approach
pavement in Woodstock. One lane in each direction on South
Street.
- Route 22 east of Route 43 to Ridge Road -- Bridge
replacement in Bannockburn and Highland Park. One lane in each
direction.
- Route 83 over the Wisconsin Central Ltd. Railroad -- New
bridge deck in Lake Villa, Loon Lake and Antioch. One lane in
each direction.
- Deerfield Road from Wilmot Road to Park Avenue -- Widening
and resurfacing in Deerfield. Road closed. Detour posted.
- Port Clinton Road and Prairie Road -- Reconstruction of
bituminous concrete roadway, removal and replacement of storm
sewer system, sidewalks, curb, gutter, traffic signal
modernization, street lighting, and landscaping in Buffalo Grove
and Vernon Hills. One lane in each direction.
LaSalle County
- I-39, mile markers 60 to 67 -- Bridge repairs. One lane open
in each direction.
- I-80 at Route 351 -- Interchange reconstruction. Westbound
on-ramp to I-80 closed. Follow posted detour. All other ramps
are open.
Livingston County
- I-55, mile markers 215 to 219 -- Pavement patching. One lane
open in each direction.
Macon County
- Interstate 72 at Route 121 west of Decatur, mile marker 138
-- Bridge rehabilitation. One lane open in each direction. Ramps
are open.
Madison County
- Center Grove Road will be closed from east of the relocated
Route 159 to west of the existing Route 159. A detour is signed
to direct the traveling public.
- Spyglass Court will be closed from Route 157 to Butler
Boulevard. A detour route is signed to direct the traveling
public.
- Motorists will encounter staged construction with traffic
signals along Route 160 just south of Grantfork. This lane
restriction is necessary to replace the existing bridge. A
signed wide-load detour is in place to direct the traveling
public.
McHenry County
- U.S. 14 at Mokeler Creek to north of Illinois Route 173 --
Widening in Harvard. Traffic is shifted to the east side of the
bridge, with one lane open in each direction.
Peoria County
- The I-74 westbound entrance ramp from War Memorial Drive,
Exit 89, is closed for pavement reconstruction. Motorists should
use the newly constructed Sterling Avenue interchange, Exit 88,
as an alternate route.
- I-74 eastbound is reduced to one lane at mile marker 85 for
overhead bridge repair.
Randolph County
- Motorists will encounter staged construction with temporary
traffic signals along Illinois Route 3 approximately 1½ miles
north of Ruma. This lane restriction is necessary to replace the
existing bridge and is expected to be completed in November.
St. Clair County
- Stage construction along Illinois Route 157 near I-64 is
reducing the number of lanes from two to one lane in the
southbound direction.
Union County
- U.S. 51, northeast of Cobden -- Bridge construction over
Drury Creek and the Illinois Central Railroad. One lane of
traffic, controlled by temporary traffic signals.
