  Beatrice 'Jiggs' Hamblen-Schimmel

LINCOLN -- Beatrice "Jiggs" Hamblen-Schimmel, 89, of Lincoln died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at 4:05 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Peters officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Hamblen-Schimmel was a homemaker, helped her first husband farm for 35 years and worked as a secretary at Chestnut Hatchery.

She was born April 24, 1916, in Dale, Ind., to Daniel and Ida Heard Lamar. She married Alva Hamblen in 1939 and he died in 1974. She married Ralph Schimmel in 1990 and he died in 1998.

She is survived by one son, Larry Hamblen of Beason; one brother, Buss Lamar of Mount Pulaski; two sisters, Ruth Smith of Iowa and Joann Pazder of Oklahoma; two grandsons, Sean Hamblen of Beason and Toby Hamblen of Auburndale, Fla.; one granddaughter, Tara Jensen of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Roger Hamblen; three brothers, Bud, Blue and Loel Lamar; one sister, Burnice Ellison; and one grandson, Todd Hamblen.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

She graduated from Beason High School and Brown’s Business College in Decatur.

MASON CITY -- Luella Langenbahn, 84, of Mason City died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at 2:50 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Columba Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Langenbahn was a nurse's aide at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln for 16˝ years before she retired in 1973.

She was born Oct. 18, 1920, at New Holland to Adolph Lohrenz and Christina Behrends. She married Albert Langenbahn on Feb. 10, 1939. He died March 3, 2003.

She is survived by two sons, Dale Langenbahn and Harold Langenbahn, both of Springfield; one daughter, Ruby Wagner of San Jose; one sister, Lena Lussenhop of Mason City; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one grandchild.

She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Mason City.

MASON CITY -- Gail J.H. Thies, 88, of Mason City died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at 10:20 a.m. at Mason City Area Nursing Home.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mason City United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Stephen King officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

Hurley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mr. Thies was a farmer and well-known breeder of purebred Hampshire hogs.

He was born Dec. 5, 1916, in Havana to George H. and Edith Cordes Thies. He married Iola Squire in 1937, and she died in 1958. He married Genevieve Hoffert in 1960, and she survives.

Other survivors are one stepson, James (and Debbie) Hoffert of Decatur; four daughters, Jeanie Taylor of Bonita Springs, Fla., Janet (and Bob) Werner of New Holland, Mari Beth (and John) Krause of Mason City and stepdaughter Rhonda (and John) Knoles of Mason City; one brother, Allen Blessman of Mason City; one stepsister, Janet (and Gordon) Meyer of Mason City; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Arthur Blessman; two brothers, Edward Blessman and Earl Thies; and one daughter, Diana G. Behrends.

He a member of the Mason City United Methodist Church, a Mason for 52 years and a 50-year member of Greenview Lodge 653, an Ansar Shrine member of the New Salem Shrine Club, a Mason City Township trustee, a member of Illinois Farm Bureau and a 4-H leader. He was a director on the National Hampshire Board, an assistant swine superintendent at the Illinois State Fair and was inducted into the Illinois Purebred Swine Council Hall of Fame in 1997. After retiring from the farm, he became an accomplished woodworker. He was a volunteer bull-shooter at the Mason City Nursing Home.

He graduated from San Jose High School in 1935.

MOUNT PULASKI -- Dorothy F. Schroth, 92, formerly of Chestnut, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at 11:50 p.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center,

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut, with the Rev. Joel Dietrich officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mrs. Schroth was a homemaker and farmer.

She was born Jan. 19, 1913, in Beason to Harry Bloye and Letitia Belle Gardner Fox. She married Norbert Eugene Schroth in St. Louis, Mo., on Nov. 19, 1938, and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Kent (and Frances) Schroth of Chestnut and Stephen B. Schroth of Clinton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her twin brother, Dean Fox, and was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Chestnut, and memorials may be made to the church.

Mildred Allen

CHESTNUT -- Mildred June Allen, 80, of Chestnut, formerly of Roseville, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at 6:04 p.m. at the Hawthorne Inn Nursing Home of Clinton.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Laenna Cemetery, rural Chestnut.

Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Allen was retired as a registered nurse. She had worked 25 years at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville.

She was born June 6, 1925, in Marysville, Kan., to the late William and Waty Rickie Ferrell.

She is survived by one daughter, Laura (and James) Allen of Chestnut; one son, Daniel Allen of Smithville, Mo.; two grandsons, Shawn Duke of Atlanta and Jeremy Allen of Smithville, Mo.; one granddaughter, Jamie Huff of Smithville, Mo.; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Frances and son James William Colgrove.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

MOUNT PULASKI -- Martha L. Braun, 80, of Mount Pulaski died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at 12:19 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Tom Cruikshank officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mrs. Braun was a homemaker.

She was born June 4, 1925, in Decatur to Russell and Hazel Garver Marques. She married Leslie H. "Red" Braun at Zion Lutheran Church in Mount Pulaski on Jan. 9, 1947.

She is survived by her husband, of Mount Pulaski; one son, Leslie A. (and Diane) Braun of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one daughter, Vickie (and Dale) Crosier of Maroa; three brothers, Jack (and Delores) Marques of Oreana, Ron (and Joyce) Marques of Decatur and Jerry (and Gloria) Marques of Decatur; two sisters, Rosemary Anderson of Decatur and Karen (and Eugene) Boliard of Staunton; and four grandchildren, Chris Braun of Denver, Colo., Brad (and Dawn) Braun of Annapolis, Md., Beth (and Eric) Augenstein of St. Louis, Mo., and Sara Crosier of St. Louis, Mo.

She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Forsyth, and memorials may be made to the church.

Clara 'Darlene' Proefrock

LINCOLN -- Clara "Darlene" Proefrock, 76, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at 7:40 a.m. at the Christian Village.

Her funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating.

Visitation was from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Monday. There was also a prayer service at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Burial is in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Proefrock retired from the Woods and Bates law office, where she worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper.

She was born Oct. 1, 1928, at Altamont to Benjamin and Abby Crowe Reiss. She married Loren W. Proefrock on Feb. 12, 1949, in Altamont.

She is survived by her husband, of Lincoln; four sons, Dr. David (and Vicki) Proefrock of Martinez, Ga., Dean Proefrock of Litchfield, John (and Kay) Proefrock of Hartsburg and Jim (and Marlo) Proefrock of Champaign; one brother, Thomas Reiss of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Helen Johanns of Farmer City and Ruth Ann Stapp of Winnsboro, Texas; eight grandchildren, Amy Wallace, Sarah (and Jason) Lorek, Jessica (and Brandon) Payne, Benjamin Proefrock, Monica Proefrock, Ann Proefrock, Edie Welshons and Eleanor Welshons; and two great-grandsons, Brandon Wallace and Kyle Wallace.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

She was a member of Holy Family Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post 263 and the Lincoln Woman's Club. She was clerk of the horse races for the Logan County Fair Association and secretary-treasurer of the Illinois Big 10 Colt Stakes Association
