Information was given to each member present about diabetes and the
Needs of Young Veterans symposium scheduled for Oct. 18-21 in
Chicago, sponsored by the national AMVETS organization. The
Interveterans Council color guard for the Logan County Fair was
discussed, and two members volunteered to assist. The Lincoln Art &
Balloon Festival was also discussed.
Under the Americanism program, there was a report about the WLCN
radio interview and what fun it was. The Veterans Honor Roll brick
project was the subject. AMVETS Post 71 encourages all who have not
purchased a brick to do so and is watching the mailbox for forms to
be returned by people who have requested them. To date, 2,038
veterans are being honored with engraved bricks. There will soon be
enough applications to lay another row or so. Please get the forms
in so that when the hot weather breaks and the bricks are ready,
they can be laid. The local post wants all to be in the honor roll.

AMVETS members fly their American flags daily and 24 hours if
lighted. The post flies 12 flags 24 hours a day. How about all the
citizens of Lincoln joining in? "It is so wonderful and such a
beautiful sight to see the American flag being proudly displayed on
homes and businesses," said Post 71 Commander Arnold Haak. "Won't
you please join us? Let's show our veterans just how much we really
appreciate their service to our country and to each of us."
The post's Americanism total evaluation was $11,314. This is just
for May, June and July.
The scholarship program has been very faithful in sending cards
and donations to the Memorial Scholarship Fund, in memory of the
deceased, to help young people enter college.
The community service program was evaluated at $628.55.
Under the hospital program, veterans in the hospital and nursing
homes have been visited.
The next AMVETS meeting will be Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. All members
are urged to come.
