Melvin Kinzie

[AUG. 3, 2006]  Melvin "Mel" L. Kinzie, 74, of Lincoln died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at his home.

A memorial visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Phillip Blackburn officiating.

Bennett funeral directors are handling arrangements.

Mr. Kinzie was born Dec. 28, 1931, in Traverse County, Minn., to John W. and Lily Switzer Kinzie. He married Joyce Prohofsky on May 12, 1955, in St. Paul, Minn.

He is survived by his wife; three children, David (and Nancy) Kinzie of Richardson, Texas, Catherine (and Doug) Tiffany of Lincoln and John (and Natalie) Kinzie of Colleyville, Texas; four grandchildren, Solomon Willis, Caleb Willis, Marina Getzendanner and Jenna Kinzie; one great-grandchild, Corinne Getzendanner; two brothers, Raymond (Florence) Kinzie of Turlock, Calif., and Robert (Daisy) Kinzie of Lynn, Ind.; and two sisters, Wilma (and Larry) Gasper of Bremerton, Wash., and Nell (and Lowell) Brown of Sun City, Ariz.

He proudly served his country in the Army at the conclusion of the Korean War.

He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln

Mel was a good and gentle man. He was a big man who forever remained a big, fun-loving kid. With his raspy laugh, a twinkle in his eye and a willingness to bend the rules, he told every child, dog and person that he met that he was a special friend. He was a man of few words, but his life and devotion to his family and friends spoke volumes. Mel does not leave this life in silence, but with an unending echo that will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to Lincoln Public Library.
