Maxwell Cowgur

[AUG. 9, 2006]  CHESTNUT -- Maxwell Eugene Cowgur, 84, of Chestnut died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at 10:35 p.m. at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Robert Janes officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mr. Cowgur was a retired farmer. He also worked at Pittsburg Plate Glass in Lincoln and in construction.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was born Oct. 30, 1921, at Harrisburg to A.I. and Della Miller Cowgur. He married Roberta Koehler in Vandalia on Oct. 18, 1947.

He is survived by his wife, of Chestnut; two sons, Lester (and Patsy) Cowgur of Chestnut and Brian (and Carolyn) Cowgur of Springfield; one daughter, Becky Landis of Danville; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Cowgur of Manito; one sister, Betty (and John) Ressler of Varsailles, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Cowgur; one granddaughter, Alaina Landis; one great-grandson, Brian Harmony Jr.; four brothers; and one sister.

He was a member of the Clinton Church of God.
