Mary Louise Brummer, 78, of Lincoln
died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at 9:50 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. |
A celebration of her life will be at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev.
Mark Peters officiating. Burial will be in
Hartsburg Union Cemetery, Hartsburg, at a later
date.
Miss Brummer was a retired teacher, writer,
editor and licensed practical nurse.
She was born Dec. 18, 1927, in Lincoln to Herman
and Tasie Conrady Brummer.
She is survived by one sister, Angelina Sandel of
Lincoln; one niece, Mary Kay Flanagan of Mahomet;
two nephews, David (and Margaret) Sandel of Urbana
and John (and Karen) Sandel of Lincoln; nine
great-nieces and great-nephews; and a godson.
She was preceded in death by parents
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the
DeWitt-Logan Retired Teachers Association.
She taught 32 years in Lutheran elementary
schools and served as organist and choir director
for Lutheran churches in Stuttgart, Ark., Danville
and St. Louis, Mo.
From 1965 to 1975 she served as curriculum writer
and editor with the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod
Board of Parish Services in St. Louis.

In 1976 she completed course requirements for
practical nurse licensure and then worked as an
L.P.N. for five years in St. Louis area hospitals.
While in St. Louis she served several years as a
live-in volunteer missionary in a poverty area in
the inner city.
She served several years on the international
board of Ladies Full Gospel Fellowship Inc.
After retirement, she was a substitute teacher in
Lutheran and Catholic schools in the St. Louis area.
Miss Brummer graduated from Concordia Teachers'
College in River Forest, where she earned both
bachelor's and master's degrees.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
Faith Lutheran Church or St. Clara's Manor.
