Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at
Markwell Funeral Home in Casey. A graveside
service will follow at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the
Washington Street Cemetery in Casey, with the Rev.
Curt Weaver officiating.
Mr. Rowe managed a coal yard in Sikeston, Mo.,
and worked in meat packing in St. Louis, Mo. He then
worked for the U.S. Census Bureau out of Pittsfield.
In 1948 he moved his family to McLeansboro and
bought a newspaper agency, which he ran for three
years. In 1951 he became an REA Express agent. He
also worked for Burns Security. He retired in 1972.
He was born Feb. 3, 1911, in Herrin to L. Frank
and Jean Lauder Rowe. He married Ruth V. Parsons on
June 13, 1937, in Herrin. She died March 14, 1962,
in McLeansboro. He then married Juney A. Cooley of
Casey on April 30, 1965, in Tuscola; she survives.
Other survivors are four daughters, Janis (and
Ronald) Watson of Little Rock, Ark., Charlene S.
Kimpler of Morton, Deborah (and Robert) Eckert of
Lincoln, and Cathie (and David) Edwards of Lincoln;
10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters,
Aline Grissom and Genevieve Lowman; one son, Charles
R. Williams; one grandson, John Thomas M. Watson;
and one granddaughter, Skye A. Edwards.
He was a former member of McLeansboro First
Baptist Church and Hillcrest Baptist in Tuscola. In
both churches he served as a deacon, song leader and
Sunday school teacher. In his younger years he sang
in a men's quartet at church.
Upon retirement he became an avid gardener.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a
charity of the donor's choice.
