Argentinian missionary Judith VanOsdol to be at Emden church [DEC. 16, 2006] EMDEN -- Pastor David L. Hofer has announced that missionary Judith VanOsdol will be at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 120 Market St., on Dec. 31 at 10:30 a.m. to share information on her work in Argentina. Pastor Osdol and her husband, Dr. Gullermo Hansen, will also address the Sunday school at 9:15 that morning.The Rev. Judith VanOsdol is a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is a missionary serving the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Argentina and Uruguay. She is also continental coordinator of women's ministries and the gender justice desk of the Latin American Council of Churches. Her work includes teaching, leading international workshops, publishing, organizing and advocacy from a gender and international human rights perspective, with special emphasis on overcoming violence in all forms and promoting biblical and theological training of women, including those from indigenous and Afro-descendant communities. She has been an ELCA missionary for 12 years. Her husband is also a Lutheran pastor and is professor of systematic theology at the Ecumenical Seminary in Buenos Aires. They have two children, Daniel, 16, and Lia, 12. The United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Argentina and Uruguay is a member of the Lutheran World Federation, and the Latin American Council of Churches serves 170 Christian churches in 20 countries of Latin America and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean.
