[DEC. 22, 2006]  The following recalls were issued Dec. 17-21 by various federal and state agencies.

Toy helicopters can overheat

ThinkGeek Inc. of Fairfax, Va. is recalling its remote-control Dragonfly King HX-242 helicopter (also known as the Micro R/C helicopter) sold nationwide during November 2006. The helicopter battery can overheat and catch fire, posing a burn hazard.

The recalled toy helicopters are remote-controlled lightweight plastic toy helicopters. The helicopter is sold with a control unit, a charger and rechargeable batteries in the body of the toy. The helicopter has a label on the front that reads "Champion HX242 Electric Power Helicopter."

Blades for fruit slicers and corers can separate

Lifetime Brands Inc. is recalling Farberware Classic Series fruit slicers and corers sold nationwide from January 1999 to October 2006. The metal blade can separate from the plastic handle during use, resulting in cuts to consumers' hands and fingers.

The recalled product is the Farberware Classic Series fruit slicer and corer with model number 78350. "Farberware" is printed on the top of the handle.

Boilers pose risk of carbon monoxide poisoning

Crown Boiler Co. is recalling Bermuda BSI and Cayman CWI Series gas boilers sold nationwide from October 2002 to October 2006. The boilers can generate excessive levels of carbon monoxide in the flue gases, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Wal-Mart recalls Christmas mug gift sets

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is recalling Holiday Time Christmas mug gift sets sold nationwide at Wal-Mart stores from October 2006 to December 2006. The buttons could detach from the plush characters sold with the mug gift sets, posing a choking hazard.

The gift sets include a decorated ceramic mug and a stuffed Santa, snowman or reindeer. "©DanDee™ Collector's Choice®" and the product's UPC number are printed on the character's sewn-in labels. UPC numbers are as follows: Santa 0 47475 45419 8, Snowman 0 47475 45429 7, Reindeer 0 47475 45439 6. "Holiday Time™" is printed on the character's hanging tag.

Party favors could contain lead

Celebrate Express Inc. is recalling its "Gigantic Gemstone Ring" party favors sold nationwide from October 2003 to October 2006. The recalled rings could contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

The recalled children's toy ring is a silver-colored metallic ring with a large plastic gemstone. The gemstone colors are blue, red, purple, green and clear. The rings were sold individually and as part of various party favor, costume and heirloom sets.

Dewalt cut-out tools pose shock hazard

DeWalt is recalling Model DW660 cut-out tools sold nationwide from January 2006 to November 2006. The cord wire in these units could be damaged internally, posing a shock hazard.

These DeWalt cut-out tools are yellow and black and have model number DW660 written on their nameplate, which is located on the body of the unit. The recalled tools were manufactured between January 2006 and September 2006 and have date codes ranging from 200601 to 200639. The date code also is located on the tool's nameplate. Units with a "V" stamped on the nameplate are not included in this recall.

DeWalt reciprocating saws can short-circuit

DeWalt is recalling DC305 model reciprocating saws sold nationwide from May 2006 to November 2006. The switch on these saws can short-circuit, posing a fire hazard.

This recall involves cordless DeWalt DC305 model reciprocating saws with date codes 200601-49 through 200640-49. The model number is located on the name plate on the side of the housing, and the date code is located under the handle where the battery is inserted.

Feeding spoons pose choking hazard

BabySwede LLC is recalling BabyBjorn feeding spoons sold nationwide from January 2001 to November 2006. After extended use, the soft plastic tip on the feeding spoon can loosen and break off, posing a choking hazard.

The recalled feeding spoons were sold under the brand name BabyBjorn, which is printed along the front side of the spoon's handle. The spoons were sold in one package containing two spoons.
