J.F. Allsopp

[DEC. 21, 2006]  J.F. "The Dirt Man" Allsopp, 85, of Lincoln died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at 6:36 p.m. at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lincoln Christian Church. His funeral will follow at 7 p.m. at the church, with Tim Searby officiating.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Dec. 27 at Elkhart Cemetery.

Bennett Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mr. Allsopp was a self-employed truck driver. After operating the Allsopp Sand and Gravel business for many years, he became "the dirt man" of central Illinois.

He was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Springfield to John Thomas and Amelia Hograve Allsopp. He married Jewel "Judy" Feese in Lincoln on Dec. 26, 1954.

He is survived by two sons, Tom Allsopp of Westminster, Calif., and Mark (and Julie) Allsopp of Morris; one daughter, Pam Allsopp of Normal; one sister, Clara Hobbs of Springfield; four grandchildren, Megan Engelman of Godley, Erin Allsopp of Morris, Lloyd Allsopp of Westminster, Calif., and Jake Allsopp of Morris; and three great-grandchildren.

He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church and a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers union.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at Lincoln Christian Church.
