Lincoln Community High School speech team wins at Heyworth          Send a link to a friend 

[JAN. 16, 2006]  HEYWORTH -- The Lincoln Community High School speech team won the speech tournament at Heyworth on Saturday over 18 teams. The LCHS team was led by double champion Lindsey Boerma in original comedy and humorous interpretation and Kelly Lohrenz in dramatic interpretation. Novice champions were Todd Schumacher in dramatic interpretation, Chelsea Filbeck in extemporaneous and Kaylyn Engelhardt in radio.

Other finalists included Rachel Kasa and Tony Curcuru in dramatic duet; Rachel Kasa, fourth, and Cody Follis, eighth, in dramatic interpretation; Hannah Snyder, second, Cameron Kurtz, fourth, and Amy Schumacher, fifth, in extemporaneous; Tony Curcuru and Annie Sheley, second in humorous duet; Stephanie Holford, sixth in humorous interpretation; Hannah Snyder, fourth in impromptu; Kaylyn Engelhart, fifth in declamation; Hailey Cooper, third, and Stephanie Holford, fourth, in original comedy; Janel Filbeck, second in oratory; Annie Sheley, fifth, and Janel Filbeck, seventh, in radio; Kelly Lohrenz, sixth, and Jill Patrick, seventh, in special occasion speaking; and Ruth Ohmart, third in verse.

Novice finalists were Chelsea Filbeck, sixth in impromptu; Todd Schumacher, third in declamation; and Cody Follis, fourth in verse.

"This was by far our best outing of the year," said Ed Jodlowski, a coach for the Lincoln team. "The kids were at their best and they are still improving. This weekend we travel to the challenging Downers Grove tournament, which is always a good test of where we are."
