LINCOLN -- Kathryn J. McCawley, 100, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at 9:50 p.m. at the Christian Village.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, with the Rev. Carroll Richards officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mrs. McCawley had taught in country schools in Logan County for 15 years, including 10 years at Rosedale School, where she attended as a young girl. She later worked at Stetson China in Lincoln.

She was born Feb. 14, 1905, near Natrona in Mason County, to Charles and Catherine Schrieber Schrader. She married Cecil A. McCawley on Feb. 10, 1926. He died Dec. 5, 1984.

She is survived by one son, Nathan (and Patty) McCawley of Gambrills, Md.; one daughter, Sara McCawley of New Holland; one grandson, Steven (and Kelly) McCawley of Frederick, Md.; one granddaughter, Kathryn (and Jeff) Roberts of California; and one great-grandson, Zachary Roberts of California.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Crumpler, and one brother, Clarence Schrader. She was the last of her immediate family.

She attended Illinois State Normal University for a time.

She was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and memorials may be made to the church.

Mildred Martin

LINCOLN -- Mildred "Milly" Martin, 83, of Lincoln died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at 7:36 p.m. at home with her family.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bennett Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at 5 p.m.

Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father R. Anthony Lee officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mrs. Martin was a devoted and loving wife and mother who had the most important job of all -- caring for her family.

She was born Oct. 14, 1922, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Lewis and Mary Duda. She married Leon "Mickey" Martin on Oct. 15, 1940, in Syracuse, N.Y.

She is survived by her husband, of Lincoln; one daughter, Nancy McCullough of Bloomington; one son, Tom Martin (and wife Stacey) of Lincoln; one sister, Natalie Sablowski of Syracuse, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Martin; one brother, Joseph Duda; and one sister, Louise Duda.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln and the Polka Club of Springfield.

She loved to garden, travel and polka dance. She and her husband traveled the country, polka dancing and enjoying their time together.

She was hands down the best cook in the neighborhood, and every dish was homemade. She was always the perfect homemaker, even down to mending buttons, pockets and making all of her children's Halloween costumes.

Her loving spirit will be missed by all of those she touched.

Memorial donations may be made to Wayne J. Schall Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Rilda Hinck

DECATUR -- Rilda Hinck, 88, of Mount Zion died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 17, 2006, at the Manor Care Health Services facility in Decatur.

Her funeral service was Friday morning at the Middletown Methodist Church, with Dayle Eldridge officiating. Visitation was Thursday evening at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln and for an hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Burial will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.

Mrs. Hinck taught English and typing at Carlinville High School for three years. She then taught English at Middletown High School and language arts at New Holland-Middletown Junior High School for a total of 34 years.

She was born Feb, 3, 1917, in Gross, Kan., to Victor and Mary Alpe Rocci. She married Arthur Hinck on Aug. 14, 1947. He died April 15, 1990.

She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Van Tuyle (and husband Dennis Cumby) of Roodhouse and Denise Pullen (and husband Jim) of Mount Zion; and by five grandchildren, Ryan Van Tuyle of Roodhouse, Lauren Van Tuyle of Chicago, Jason Pullen of Yongin, South Korea, and Josh and Scott Pullen of Mount Zion.

She was also preceded in death by two infant sisters and one brother, Frederick.

She was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Ansarettes, Decatur Area Retired Teachers Association, Illinois Education Association and a fifty-year member of Flower City Chapter 152, Order of Eastern Star.

She was listed in the 1975 edition of the Outstanding Teachers of America publication.

She graduated from Carlinville High School in 1935 and from Illinois College in 1939. While at Illinois College she was a member of Chi Beta literary society and was initiated into Phi Beta Kappa upon graduation.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Fritz and his staff and the staff at Manor Care.

Jerry Crane

DELAVAN -- Jerry Ray Crane, 65, of Delavan died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at 3:05 p.m. at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. David L. Hofer, the Rev. Gene Peisker and John Cross officiating.

Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery, Hartsburg.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Mr. Crane was a farmer in the Hartsburg and Emden area.

He was born Jan. 20, 1940, to Kenneth "Jack" and Beulah Campbell Crane. He married Vicki Fink on Aug. 2, 1958, at Emden.

He is survived by his wife, of Delavan; one son, Todd Crane of Emden; two daughters, Tonya (and Nathan) Bassett of Atlanta and Tasha (and Uvaldo) Herrera of Bloomington; two brothers, Ron (and Sandy) Crane of Lincoln and Richard (and Lynette) Crane of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; one sister, Joann (and Tony) Behrends of York, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Brandon and Christopher Crane, Mitchell and Shelby Daugherty, and Isabela Herrera.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Timothy Ray Crane.

He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Emden, where he served on the church council, call committee, outreach committee, social statement committee, board of parish education, was superintendent for Sunday school and a member of Brotherhood.

He was the longest-standing member of the Hartsburg Grain board and had been vice president of the board in 1967. He was a board member for Hartsburg-Emden School from 1969 to 1972

He was one of the founders of Camp Griesheim Christian Retreat Center and had served as board chairman since its founding. He was instrumental in bringing the Kogudus renewal ministry to Illinois in the early 1970s.
