Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, with military
rites performed at the grave site. Mr. Southern
had been self-employed at Don and Loren's Barbershop
in Lincoln, beginning in 1950.
He proudly served his country in the Army in the
Philippine Islands and Australia during World War
II.
He was born March 17, 1924, in Logan County to
Steve and Blanche Holmes Southern. He married Ilene
Voyles on June 20, 1943, in Beason. She died Dec.
17, 2001.
He is survived by his two daughters, Sandy (and
David) Slack of Lincoln and LeAnn (and Pedro)
Figueroa, also of Lincoln; one grandson, Mark Paggie
of Chicago; four granddaughters, Chelsie (and Adam)
Campbell of Atlanta, Kasey Slack, who is proudly
serving her country in Kuwait, Jessie Slack of
Seattle, Wash., and Amy Holmes of Lincoln; one
brother, Jack Southern of Florida; and one sister,
Dorothy West of Lincoln.
He was a member of the Beason United Methodist
Church and at one time taught Sunday school there.
He was a member of American Legion Post 263.
He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan and an
avid golfer.
He attended Decatur Barber College.
He was a wonderful father, grandfather and
friend. He will be missed and many will rejoice at
his life.

91301. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral
home.
