Little town plans big 'Homecoming Sunday' Send a link to a friend [MAY 25, 2006] MIDDLETOWN -- Middletown is a small town with a big idea! For the past several months, members of the Middletown United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Irish Grove Church and other interested parties have met to bring the dream of Presbyterian Pastor Allan Dean to reality. For Pastor Dean, the idea of having a daylong celebration of worship, music and fellowship will become reality on June 4 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the park pavilion. "All work is being donated by the volunteers from the churches as well as most of the participants in the event," Dean said. "Food is also being provided by members and friends. We want people to come out enjoy the day and the fellowship and not have to worry about costs." The purpose of the day's events is to encourage those who have no church affiliation or who have stopped attending church to experience a "homecoming." But the homecoming won't end at the end of the day June 4. The next evening, June 5, Vacation Bible School for youngsters begins from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian church. Older youth and adults will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. that week at the Methodist church for Bible study and to ask any questions they might have dealing with the Bible. Dean is excited about the event. "Those of us that have been planning this day hope people will come out, be encouraged in their faith walk and participate in the follow-up activities too," he said. "I see this as a wonderful opportunity to provide a wholesome atmosphere and an encouragement for people to come back to the Lord, and for everyone to have a great time of fellowship and fun." Dress will be casual. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Games will be provided to entertain children of all ages, and lunch will be provided. June 4 schedule
