Rev. Rich Reinwald to celebrate 20th year of local ministry       Send a link to a friend

[MARCH 18, 2006]  The 20th anniversary of the Lincoln ministry of the Rev. Rich Reinwald will be celebrated with an open house on March 26 at St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln.

The public open house will be from 1 to 3 p.m. March 26 in the St. John Fellowship Hall. Cake and punch will be served. The open house will be preceded by a potluck dinner for church members, which will immediately follow the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

The Rev. Rich and Barb Reinwald came to St. John United Church of Christ on April 1, 1986. He previously served from 1978 to 1986 at St. John UCC in St. Clair, Mo., and from 1973 to 1978 at St. James UCC at Morrison, Mo.

Currently, the Rev. Reinwald is vice moderator of the Western Association of the United Church of Christ. He has previously served on the association's nominating and church and ministry committees, including a term as chair of the latter.


Lenten services begin at Good Shepherd          Send a link to a friend

[FEB. 25, 2006]  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1140 North State, will have Wednesday evening services in observance of Lent. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, a time used for reflection in preparation for Easter. Services will be each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., and fellowship will follow the service, with coffee and snacks served.

Good Shepherd invites anyone interested in examining the meaning of baptism and God's grace to join them on Wednesdays beginning March 1 through April 5.


'Emerging, Irrelevant or Transformational?'  Send a link to a friend

[FEB. 25, 2006]  Robert Douglas will present a lectureship at Lincoln Christian College and Seminary on March 22. The theme is "Emerging, Irrelevant or Transformational? The Church in the 21st Century." The sessions are free and open to the public.

March 22 lectureship schedule:

  • 9:30 a.m. -- "Models and Metaphors: McDonalds, Boeing or the 3 P's"

  • Noon -- "God's Politics, Good News and Globalization"

  • 2:30 p.m. -- "And Then Comes the End -- or Does It?"

All sessions will be in Restoration Hall, R-49.

Dr. Douglas has been professor of intercultural studies at Lincoln Christian Seminary since 1994. He has a background of more than 10 years of missions experience in Libya, Egypt and Lebanon. While in Beirut, he founded and directed the Middle East Bible Training College. He served for eight years as the executive director of the Zwemer Institute of Muslim Studies, an organization that trained church planters for work among Muslims.

Douglas has served as preaching minister for churches in Oklahoma, Texas and California. He has had extensive teaching experience at both secular and Christian universities, including Fuller Theological Seminary and Pepperdine University.

He holds a doctorate in religion from the University of Southern California, a master's in missiology from the School of World Mission at Fuller Theological Seminary and a master's in New Testament from Abilene Christian University.

Lincoln Christian Seminary provides several lectureships each year for the enrichment of the academic and spiritual lives of students as well as guests from the community and surrounding area. Guest lecturers for past annual lectureships have featured such outstanding individuals as Eugene Peterson, Walter Kaiser, Thomas Oden, Ted Ward, Robert Clinton, Kenneth Gangel, Raymond Bakke, Paul L. Maier and Robert Webber.
