BEASON -- Marilyn Jeanne Vieth, 81, of Beason died Thursday,
May 11, 2006, at 5 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center,
Springfield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bennett
Funeral Home in Lincoln. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Julie Azbell
officiating.
Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery.
Mrs. Vieth worked at home.
She was born Sept. 14, 1924, near Latham in rural Macon
County to Leamen O. and Florence N. Armington Rau. She
married Wilbur C. Vieth on Nov. 14, 1942, at the Rau farm in
Latham. He died June 15, 1993.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Westen (and Roger)
of Beason; one brother, Marvin Rau (and Carolyn) Decatur;
two granddaughters, Jennifer Muskovich (and Jason) of
Lewisville, Texas and Jamie Westen-Moore (and Tony) of
Bloomington; and three great-grandchildren, Jenson and Jack
Muskovich of Lewisville, Texas, and Emersyn Moore of
Bloomington.
She was also preceded in death by an infant brother.
She was a member of the Beason United Methodist Church
and the United Methodist Women.
Memorial donations may be made to her church or to the
American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral
home.

CLINTON -- Sandra Eileen Morgan, 55, of Clinton died
Thursday, May 11, 2006, at the Heritage Manor Care facility
in Bloomington.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in
Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton. The Rev. Elizabeth Glidden will
officiate.
Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.
She was a homemaker and raised her children with love and
courage.
Sandie was born Sept. 9, 1950, in Decatur to Donald
Emanuel and Ellen Roberts Hall. She married Everett "Arkie"
Morgan on April 7, 1978, and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Melvin (and Tammy) Holloway
of Indiana and Brad (and Ginny) Holloway of Indiana; one
daughter, Tina Morgan of Clinton; one brother, Donald (and
Sandy) Hall of Lincoln; one sister, Sandy (and David) Harris
of Bloomington; and 11 grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two
brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the
American Cancer Society.

CARMI -- Doris Pool Marlin, 95, of Carmi
died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Hamilton
Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at
Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, with the Rev. C. William
Fechtig officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home
after 1 p.m. until the service time.
Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery.
Mrs. Marlin was a homemaker.
She was born April 13, 1911, in Herald to
Washington and Effie Nolen Pool. She married Charles Francis
Marlin on March 2, 1941, and he died Feb. 1, 1975.
She is survived by one son, Gene P. (and
wife Carol) Marlin of Chatham; one brother, James (and
Polly) Pool of Carmi; one sister, Mary Black of Kentucky; three grandchildren, Douglas (and
Angela) Marlin of Lincoln, Brenda Miller of Springfield and stepgrandson Christopher Wiedler; and six
great-grandchildren, Rachel, Brett and Blake Marlin of
Lincoln, Dylan and Wyatt Miller of Springfield, and a
step-great-granddaughter. Other survivors are JoAnne Marlin
of Lincoln and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister,
Lorrine Sutton, and three brothers, Leslie, Rolla and Ed
Pool.
She was a member of Emmanuel United
Methodist Church in Carmi.
Donald Ponder

LINCOLN -- Donald Ponder, 66, of Springfield, formerly of
Lincoln, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St.
John's Hospice, Springfield, with his family by his side.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bennett
Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Ronald Schmidt
officiating.
Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mr. Ponder managed the Eisner Food Store in Lincoln for
25 years. Following that, he briefly had Don's IGA before
owning and operating the Lawndale Tap for 20 years.
He was born Aug. 18, 1939, in Danville to Ernest Cleo
Ponder and Elsie Marie Taylor Ponder. He married Carol
Goodling on Aug. 13, 1967, in Champaign.
He is survived by his wife, of Springfield; two
daughters, Lisa (and husband Kim) Johnson of Middletown and
Julie (and husband Robert) Tucker of Lincoln; four brothers,
James Ponder of Florida, Elza Ponder of Florida, William
"Russ" Ponder of Texas and Leroy Ponder of Danville; and six
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother,
Ernest Ponder.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, VFW
Post 4256 in Madera Beach, Fla., and Moose Lodge 1441 and
Eagles Lodge 2708, both in Lincoln.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's
Research and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Celesta Teal

ATLANTA -- Celesta L. Teal, 90, of Atlanta,
died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at 2:18 a.m. at her home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday
at the Atlanta Christian Church. Her funeral will be at
10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Maurice Stribling
officiating.
Cremation rites will be accorded following
the service, and burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery at a
later date.
Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, handled
arrangements.
Mrs. Teal was a homemaker.
She was born March 30, 1916, at Laconia,
Ind., to Henry Franklin and Myrtle Behrens Richard. She
married Fred Nichols, and he died in 1961. She later married
Joseph Henry Teal, and he died in 1986.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna
Willis of Lincoln; two sons, Phillip Nichols and Rick
Nichols, both of Atlanta; one stepson, Bob Teal of Lincoln;
one stepdaughter, JoAnne Teal of Lincoln; one brother,
Burlen Richard of Nevada; one sister, Pearl Fisher of St.
Joseph; six grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three
brothers, two sisters and one stepson, Ron Teal.
She was a member of the Atlanta Woman's Club
and the Atlanta Christian Church.

Nellie Reed

LINCOLN -- Nellie L. Reed, 82, of Lincoln died Tuesday,
May 9, 2006, at 1:40 p.m. at the Christian Village.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Holland and Barry
Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.,
with Pastor Tony Shuff and Chaplain Ryan Edgecomb
officiating.
Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
Mrs. Reed worked as a volunteer with Hospice Care in
Peoria and in Lincoln. She was also active in teaching
Vietnamese people in the Lincoln area how to read and write.
Along with Dr. Bill Becker she was instrumental in starting
the methadone clinic in Peoria. She was a cadet nurse in
Macomb from 1944 to 1948.
She was born May 2, 1924, in Cooperstown to Herschel Boyd
Ingles and Virginia Rose Bratton Ingles. She married Woodrow
W. Reed on Sept. 2, 1944, in Macomb. He died March 24, 1983.
She is survived by one son, Michael Allen Reed of
Washington, Ill.; two daughters, Panarisha Sue Knapp of
Naples, Fla., and Lana Leah (and Tim) Carlton of Lincoln;
one sister, Sarah P. Snyder of Peoria; eight grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Verneita
May Roth.
She was formerly a member of Neighbors to Nations church
in Lincoln and more recently attended Sunday services at the
Christian Village. She was also formerly a member of the
Methodist church in Peoria.
She enjoyed watching and talking about sports.
She graduated from Bradley University with a bachelor's
degree in nursing and a master's degree in education, with a
major in guidance and counseling.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis College of Nursing
or Lincoln Christian Village and will be accepted at the
funeral home.

LINCOLN -- Mary E. Cottingham, 78, of Lincoln died
Monday, May 8, 2006, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor at
Lincoln.
Her body was cremated.
A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Cottingham will be
at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery at Lincoln, with
the Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating.
Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cottingham ran a day care from her home for 30
years. She had also been a secretary for Spellmans.
She was born April 8, 1928, at Lincoln to Thomas and
Helen Day. She married Daniel Jim Cottingham on March 30,
1966, in Glendale, Calif. He died Nov. 27, 1994.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann (and Jerry) Schutz
of Atlanta; two granddaughters, Jennifer Wheeler of Lincoln
and Christy Wheeler of Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren,
Aubrey and Ashton Bottles.
One sister preceded her in death.
She was a member of Holy Family Church.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

LINCOLN -- James Joseph Sutton Sr., 79, of Lincoln died
Monday, May 8, 2006, at 4:50 p.m. at St. John's Hospice,
Springfield.
His body will be cremated, according to his wishes.
A memorial gathering will be at noon Saturday at the
American Legion in Lincoln. Family and friends are invited
to share in fellowship with the Sutton family.
Holland and Barry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mr. Sutton retired from PPG Industries in 1988. He was
formerly employed by Stetson's China in Lincoln.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during
World War II.
He was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Lincoln to Gilbert Wayne
and Lillian Kline Sutton. He married Irean Bradley on March
4, 1949, in Lincoln. She died in 1988.
He is survived by one son, James J. "Joe" Sutton Jr. of
Mount Pulaski; one daughter, Pamela J. Thompson of Lincoln;
one brother, Marion "Bud" Sutton of Lincoln; one sister,
Norma Schaffenacker of Lincoln; six grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren
He was also preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Sutton,
and two brothers, Claude and Gilbert Sutton.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and
VFW, all in Lincoln. He also belonged to the Flint Glass
Workers Association.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Hospice.

LINCOLN -- Larry L. Bacon, 64, of Lincoln died Monday,
May 8, 2006, at 4:35 p.m. at Trinity Terrace Park,
Bettendorf, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Bill
Shanle officiating.
Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
Mr. Bacon retired in 1999 from Caterpillar in East
Peoria, where he worked as a timekeeper for 35 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was born Jan. 22, 1942, in Lincoln to Raymond and Mary
Alexander Bacon. He married Sandra Noon on July 26, 1960, in
Lincoln.
He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Mike
Bacon of Nebraska; two daughters, Kelly (and John) Schreiber
of Lincoln and Angie (and Bob) Pittman of Springfield; two
brothers, Bill Bacon of Lincoln and Robert (and Pam) Bacon
of Lincoln; two sisters, Joanne Bacon and Karen Scales, both
of Lincoln; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant
daughter, Kathy.
