Lawrence McGuire

[NOV. 17, 2006]  McLEAN -- Lawrence Weldon "Mac" McGuire, 88, of McLean died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at 7:30 a.m. at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.

A funeral Mass for Mr. McGuire will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church in Atlanta, with Father John Cyr officiating.

Burial will be in McLean Cemetery.

He owned McGuire Sales and Service (TV and radio) in McLean until 1957 and then was a radio and communications technician for the Illinois State Police in Pontiac until he retired in 1979.

He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.

He was born Dec. 12, 1917, at Funks Grove to Lawrence P. and Lillie Necessary McGuire. He married Elizabeth Mills Loercher on April 12, 1956, in Lincoln.

Surviving Mr. McGuire are his wife of 50 years, in McLean; six sons, David (and Jane) McGuire of Broken Arrow, Okla., Ron McGuire of Heyworth, Larry (and Susan) McGuire of Lexington, Richard (and Jean) Loercher of Whitefish, Mont., Paul (and Vickie) Loercher of McLean and Roger (and Ursala) Loercher of Normal; one daughter, Loretta Carol (and Larry) Hankins of Normal; a daughter-in-law, Carol Loercher of Bloomington; four brothers, Vern McGuire of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Dale (and Alice) McGuire of Houston, Texas, Roy (and Bertie) McGuire of McLean and Paul (and Rose Mary) McGuire of Bloomington; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Neil McGuire and Fred Loercher, and one brother, James McGuire.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Atlanta, American Legion Post 573, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 454, the Purple Heart organization and the Quarter Century Radio Club.

He graduated from McLean High School in 1936.

Memorials may be made to the McLean Rescue Squad or to the Ambucs of Bloomington.
