Weber named to Gateway All-Academic Team

[NOV. 29, 2006]  ST. LOUIS -- Senior long snapper Jake Weber was named to the 2006 Gateway Football Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention Team on Monday, as announced by the league office.

Weber, a native of Peoria, Ill., was one of 34 student-athletes recognized by the conference office. Serving as both the long and short snapper for the Redbirds, Weber has already accepted an invitation to play in the 2007 Hula Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii.

He has earned a bachelor's degree from Illinois State in accounting and is currently working toward his master's degree in public administration. He carries a 3.25 grade-point average.

Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Student-athletics must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at their institutions (freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution. League sports information directors voted on the team by designating 11 players for first-team honors and 11 players for second-team honors.
