Canon copiers, bathrobes, travel cots, thermal glasses, snowmobiles, hooded sweats, Lego trucks

[OCT. 3, 2006]  The following recalls were issued Sept. 17-21 by various federal and state agencies.

Canon copiers can overheat

Canon U.S.A. is recalling Canon desktop copiers sold nationwide from January 1987 to December 1999. An improperly fitting electrical connection inside the copiers can cause overheating, smoking and fire.

The repair recall includes only the following model Canon copiers: PC6, PC6RE, PC65, PC7, PC7RE, PC8, PC11, PC11RE, PC12, NP1010 and NP1020. The model number is on the front panel of the unit. The recalled copiers were manufactured between 1987 and 1998.

Children's bathrobes sold at Ross pose burn hazard

Roden Industries Inc. is recalling Que Cute children's bathrobes sold at Ross stores nationwide during February 2006. These bathrobes fail to meet the children's sleepwear flammability standard and pose a burn hazard.

The recalled bathrobes are made of 100 percent cotton terry cloth. The recalled robes were infant and toddler sizes. A label on the inside of the garment reads "Que Cute."

Consumers should return the bathrobes to any Ross store for a full refund.

Travel cots pose choking hazard

Regal Lager Inc. is recalling Phil & Teds T2 travel cots sold nationwide from June 2005 to August 2006. The plastic cap on the corner connectors can come loose, posing a small-parts choking hazard.

The recalled travel cot consists of an aluminum frame with four legs that holds a fabric enclosure for a small child. There are mesh windows on all sides and a zippered mesh opening on the top. The cot has big black labels on each long side, with a white T in a red circle, as well as Phil & Teds logos on each short end.

Glasses sold by QVC pose laceration hazard

QVC Inc. is recalling Therma drinking glasses sold nationwide from June 2006 to July 2006. The inner walls of the double-walled glasses can break during use, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.

The products are sets of four 8-ounce and 13-ounce double-walled glasses.

QVC has notified each customer by telephone. QVC will refund the purchase price of the glasses to each purchaser.

Loss of steering for snowmobiles

Arctic Cat Inc. is recalling Arctic Cat snowmobiles sold nationwide from May 2001 to April 2006. The steering shaft used on certain 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 Arctic Cat snowmobiles can fail at the steering shaft and steering arm attachment. This could cause a loss of steering control of the vehicle and result in injury or death.

The recalled steering shafts were installed on the following models: all 2002 440 Sno Pro models; all 2003 Firecat 500/600/700, Firecat 700 Snow Pro and 440 Sno Pro models; all 2004 Firecat 500/600/700 standard and Sno Pro and Sabercat 500/600/700 models; all 2005 Firecat 500/600/700 standard and Sno Pro, M5, M6, M7, and Sabercat 500/600/700 models; all 2006 Crossfire 600/700, Firecat 500/600/700, Firecat 700 Sno Pro, Sabercat 500/600/700 and all M series models.

Note: Vehicle identification number ranges of 4UF06SNWX6T100985 through 4UF06SNW26T128280 and 4UF06SNW16T900039 through 4UF0 6SNW06T900064 apply only to 2006 models listed above. For identification purposes, it is necessary to refer to only the last six digits of the identification number.

Registered owners have been notified about this recall by mail. Consumers should contact their local Arctic Cat snowmobile dealer to schedule the free repair.

Sweatshirts sold at Kohl's pose strangulation hazard

The Cayre Group is recalling Candie's brand children's hooded sweatshirts with drawstrings sold nationwide at Kohl's from August 2006 to September 2006. These sweatshirts with a drawstring through the hood pose a strangulation hazard.

The Blue Bell and Demitassse zip-front hooded sweatshirts were sold in four youth sizes: S, 7-8; M, 9-12; L, 14; and XL, 16. A tag sewn on the inside of the garment reads "Candie's."

Consumers should contact the Cayre Group at 800-284-3023 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday to return the merchandise for a full refund.

Youth hooded sweatshirts pose strangulation hazard

Gildan Activewear is recalling youth hooded sweatshirts sold nationwide from January 2006 to September 2006. These sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard.

The fleece sweatshirts were sold in youth sizes extra small to extra large and have a "Gildan Activewear" neck label. These sweatshirts are often used by local print shops to add logos and sportswear decals.

Consumers should remove the drawstrings and may contact Gildan at 877-445-3265, ext. 4090, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday. More information is available at www.recalls.org.

Lego toy trucks can puncture children

Lego Systems Inc. is recalling Lego Explore Super Trucks sold nationwide from August 2002 to August 2004. The plastic wheels on the truck can detach, exposing a metal axle. This poses a puncture hazard to young children.

Lego Explore Super Truck is a toy-in-toy product designed for children ages 18 months and up. The toy features a red plastic pickup-dump truck that measures about 15 inches high and 19 inches wide, with four 7-inch black plastic wheels that are packed with a box of 40 Lego Duplo bricks in the cargo area.
