[SEPT. 12, 2006]  NORMAL -- The Illinois State football team moved up three positions in the College Sporting News Coaches Poll with a No. 6 ranking but maintained its No. 7 ranking in The Sports Network I-AA Top 25 poll after Saturday’s 18-3 victory over Central Arkansas at Hancock Stadium.

The Redbirds are one of four teams from the Gateway Football Conference ranked in the top 25 of both polls. Youngstown State is No. 6 in The Sports Network poll but is No. 7, behind Illinois State, in the CSN Coaches Poll. After Saturday’s loss to North Dakota, Northern Iowa is now ranked No. 12 by The Sports Network and No. 17 by the coaches. Southern Illinois is ranked No. 13 by the coaches and sits at No. 16 in The Sports Network poll.

Illinois State returns to action Saturday night when the Redbirds host No. 18-ranked Eastern Illinois. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. [Pre-game notes]
