Mrs. Miller was well-known for her quilt-making
and quilting for others and excelled at cooking,
baking and flower gardening.
After college graduation she taught in a one-room
school in Tolono. During World War II she served her
country by working in an ammunition factory in
Illiopolis. She later worked in a garment factory in
Lincoln and then taught hand-painting at Stetson
Potteries in Lincoln.
She was born June 29, 1906, in Decatur to Francis
Marion and Susan Adalyne French Lawhead. She married
Clarence R. Miller in Lincoln on Nov. 27, 1927, and
he preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1981.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy L. (and
Robert G.) Schwalb of Edwardsville; one sister,
Marian A. Kesler of Mahomet; six grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers
and one sister.
She graduated from Lincoln College in 1926.
She was a lifelong member of the First United
Methodist Church of Lincoln, and memorials may be
made to the church.
She was extremely devoted to family and friends
and they in turn to her. She will be sadly missed.
