Lucyle Miller

[SEPT. 26, 2006]  Lucyle B. Miller, 100, of Lincoln died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at 9:50 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor.

Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jame Hahs officiating. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mrs. Miller was well-known for her quilt-making and quilting for others and excelled at cooking, baking and flower gardening.

After college graduation she taught in a one-room school in Tolono. During World War II she served her country by working in an ammunition factory in Illiopolis. She later worked in a garment factory in Lincoln and then taught hand-painting at Stetson Potteries in Lincoln.

She was born June 29, 1906, in Decatur to Francis Marion and Susan Adalyne French Lawhead. She married Clarence R. Miller in Lincoln on Nov. 27, 1927, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1981.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy L. (and Robert G.) Schwalb of Edwardsville; one sister, Marian A. Kesler of Mahomet; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She graduated from Lincoln College in 1926.

She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, and memorials may be made to the church.

She was extremely devoted to family and friends and they in turn to her. She will be sadly missed.
