The forum is scheduled for
6:30 p.m. in the city council chambers at 109 E. Olive St. in
Bloomington. The governor has proposed a new tax on the gross
receipts of Illinois businesses, which he estimates will raise $7.6
billion. In addition, he has proposed a 3 percent payroll tax,
estimated to cost Illinois businesses $1.1 billion, to fund his plan
to subsidize health care insurance for the uninsured.
"The governor's proposal would be the largest single tax hike in
the country in at least the last decade. We want to hear from the
people of the Bloomington-Normal area, and we want them to
understand the detrimental impact these huge tax increases will have
on Illinois families and the Illinois economy," Sen. Brady said.
The town hall meeting is open to all interested residents and
business owners.
