Hollywood film producer to visit alma mater, Lincoln College          Send a link to a friend

[April 13, 2007]  The Hollywood films "The Holiday," "Christmas with the Kranks," "Something's Gotta Give" and "What Women Want," have a connection to Lincoln College. Their producer is Lincoln College alumnus Bruce A. Block, class of 1968.

On April 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Johnston Center for Performing Arts on the college campus, Block will present an inside look at filmmaking and what it's really like to live and work in Hollywood. Following his presentation, Block will sign autographs.

Block, a native of Cincinnati, says Lincoln College was a turning point in his life. "I was a late bloomer, and Lincoln gave me the time and opportunity I needed to find myself," he said. He was no stranger to the stage and achieved the Best Actor Award in 1968, given at the annual honors assembly at Lincoln College. He continued his education at Carnegie-Mellon University and USC before beginning his career in Hollywood.

Block works with many Hollywood writers and directors, including Charles Shyer, Nancy Meyers and James L. Brooks, directors of "Father of the Bride," "The Parent Trap," "What Women Want" and "As Good As It Gets."

"I've been extremely lucky to have worked with top-notch writer-directors who welcome my help in bringing their vision to the screen," said Block.

Block continues to teach directing courses at USC, a position he has held for the past 30 years. He has also taught in Europe and acted as a visual consultant for Walt Disney Studios, Nickelodeon and Pixar Studios.

Block will be recognized at the annual alumni banquet, when he will be given the Distinguished Alumni Award.

"On this occasion, Lincoln College is particularly proud to highlight the success of one of its distinguished graduates, Mr. Bruce Block," said Lincoln College President John Hutchinson. "Since leaving Lincoln College, Mr. Block has enjoyed a very successful and distinguished career in the performing arts and movie industry. We look forward to welcoming him back to campus and honoring him for his accomplishments."

"Lincoln College is thrilled that Bruce has found time in his busy schedule to give back to his alma mater," added Natalie Jeckel McGee, Lincoln College director of alumni relations. "The Distinguished Alumni Award is the most prestigious honor bestowed on Lincoln College alumni. Bruce is truly deserving of this award. In fact, he is a prime example of what Lincoln College can do. This college gives each student a great start."
