Her body was cremated. A memorial service will be
at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church
in Lincoln, with the Rev. Phillip Blackburn
officiating.
Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home is handling
arrangements.
She worked as a dietitian in Chicago, did
nutrition research at the University of Illinois and
was a consultant registered dietitian at Mercy
Hospital in Urbana. She also was a consultant
registered dietitian for several nursing homes and
was employed at Lincoln Developmental Center as a
dietitian for 13 years.
She was born March 25, 1921, in rural Beason to
Andrew V. Robinson and Edith I. Lahr. She married
Irwin A. Smith on Aug. 25, 1945; he preceded her in
death in 1979. She later married Otis E. Shifflet on
Oct. 13, 1984; he preceded her in death in 1999.
She is survived by her son, Russell (and Penny)
Smith of St. Peters, Mo.; two daughters, Anne E.
(and David) Getz of East Peoria and Rosalie (and
David) Horath of Atlanta; two stepdaughters, Cheryl
Gray of Sebring, Fla., and Marcia Koestner of
Normal; one stepson, Kent Shifflet of Normal; six
grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother,
Vincent G. Robinson. |
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln,
the American Dietetics Association, Abraham Lincoln Chapter of
Daughters of the American Revolution, the Lincoln branch of the
American Association of University Women, Lincoln College Alumni
Association, Logan County Farm Bureau and University of Illinois
Alumni Association. She was a graduate of Lincoln College and
the University of Illinois and took a dietetic
internship at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Memorial donations may be made in her honor to
the First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, Lincoln
College, Atlanta Rescue Squad, American Heart
Association or to cancer research.
