Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected along and ahead of a cold front across the Upper Mississippi Valley, Central Plains and western Great Lakes.
Strong to severe storms were likely to develop from the Central Plains northeastward to northern Lower Michigan. These storms are capable producing locally damaging winds.
More showers and thunderstorms were to stretch from the southern Plains to the mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Heavier rainfall amounts may be found along the western Gulf Coast and across the Southeast.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms were anticipated over the Four Corners region.
Highs should remain mostly in the 60s for the northern Plains and parts of the upper Mississippi Valley. Much of the southern Great Plains was to be hot and humid, with temperatures running from the 90s to 100s. Out West, high pressure was expected to strengthen through the rest of the week, setting up a warming trend.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states on Monday ranged from a low of 30 degrees at Meacham, Ore., to a high of 114 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
