Hopes were high on Sunday
morning that the 1 p.m. "Christmas through a Child's Eyes" parade
would happen. Planners consulted with the National Weather Service
on the conditions and the forecast, and weighed decisions throughout
the morning.

A downpour was anticipated at 11 a.m., but it was expected to move
out of the area and become mere mists by parade time.
If the parade were to be canceled, many participants would not be
able to come back out on a different date. Also factoring in was
that the weather this time of the year could be worse on another
day. The last two years were too cold for bands to play, and some
didn't even march.
Unfortunately, the rain that was to move out of the area did not.
A cold front issued in gusty winds, driving the steady rain, and
temperatures began plummeting. The morning that had reached a balmy
52 degrees first dropped to 40, and later 30 degrees.
Wanda Lee Rohlfs, executive director for Main Street Lincoln,
said Monday morning that the parade has been rescheduled for next
Sunday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m.
