Rain was expected in the Mid-Atlantic region, while some freezing rain and several inches of snow were expected in New England.
Separately, a system was expected to move into the Great Lakes region, bringing some snow to the Dakotas and parts of the Upper Midwest.
In the Northwest and northern Rockies, a system was expected to bring snow. The rest of the West was expected to remain dry.
The Northeast was expected to see temperatures from the 10s to 30s, while the Great Lakes
region was expected to see temperatures rise into the 20s and 30s.
The Northwest was expected to see temperatures in the 30s and 40s, while the Southwest was expected to see temperatures from the 30s to the 50s.
Temperatures along the Southeast Coast were expected to remain in the 70s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of minus 21 degrees at Big Piney, Wyo., to a high of 87 degrees at Harlingen, Texas.
