Ruth J. Barry

[JAN. 2, 2007]  Ruth J. Barry, 88, of Lincoln died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at St. Clara's Manor.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Peasley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barry's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Phillip Blackburn and the Venerable Shawn W. Denney officiating.

Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery, rural Elkhart.

Mrs. Barry managed her family farms and was corporate officer.

She was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Irish Grove Township in Menard County to Martin Luther and Edna Amelia Larson Johnson. She married H. John Barry on Dec. 29, 1940, at Irish Grove. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1979.

She is survived by one son, Robert J. Barry of Lincoln, and four nephews.

She was also preceded in death was one son, Edward M. Barry, and one brother, Donald C. Johnson.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women's Association and played the piano for Sunday school at her church for 27 years. She was also a member of the Irish Grove Helping Hand Society, PEO Sisterhood, American Association of University Women, Tuesday Bridge Club, Lincoln Study Club and Lincoln Woman's Club.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936, from Lincoln College in 1938 and from the University of Illinois in 1940.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln.
