[July 03, 2007]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Light lunch bingo

Maple Ridge Care Centre will sponsor the "light lunch bingo" that will begin at noon Thursday at The Oasis. The bingo games will begin at 1 p.m. Come out and enjoy lunch and win prizes!

Need assistance with insurance forms?

The Oasis, along with the Senior Health Insurance Program, sponsors assistance to seniors with their insurance forms. Volunteers trained by the Department of Insurance are available to guide you through problems involving Medicare, Medicare supplement, long-term care insurance, retiree health plans, claims processing and appealing denied claims. This free service is offered every Thursday afternoon. Call 732-6132 for an appointment.

"Muncheon luncheon" in July

The Oasis is introducing its newest service, "muncheon luncheon," on Friday, beginning at 11:30. The menu will be cook's choice. The donation is $1. The next time will be July 23.

Third annual ice cream social

The senior center's third annual ice cream social will be Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m., during the celebration of Heritage Days. Homemade desserts and ice cream will be featured. Tickets are available at The Oasis for $2.50 or you can purchase them that day. Come and join the fun and support your senior center.

Book club

Come join the book club at the senior center. Rekindle the rewards of reading a book and either sharing your thoughts with the group or just sitting back and listening to others. The scheduled time is 1 p.m. Monday.

Summer card party

The senior center's summer card party will be July 14, beginning at 1 p.m. Come join the fun of an afternoon of pinochle, bridge, rummy and wonderful dessert. The deadline to purchase tickets is Monday, and they're available at the senior center.

July 10 lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for July 10 features tuna casserole, salad, garlic bread, dessert and a drink for $3.75, or 3.25 if you stay to play cards. The reservation deadline is Monday noon.

Computer -- buy one get one free

July 10 bingo at the Lincoln Recreational Center will have a special on handheld computers. Each player who purchases a $16 computer will get a $12 computer free. Doors open at 5:30 and games start at 6:50 p.m.

Winners for the week announced

Linda Hughes was the weekday pinochle card game winner. Esther Will and Ann Hedrick were the weekend winners for pinochle. The winners at five-in-one were Linda Hughes and Dorothy Oltmanns. Congratulations!
