[June 15, 2007]  The Zonta Club of Lincoln recently celebrated its 50th year as an organized club. The Zonta Club of Lincoln started in 1957. A special luncheon was recently held at the Junior Woman's Club building in Lincoln. Those in attendance included Bernice Hackett, charter club member; Buffie Kelly, Ed.D, lieutenant governor for Zonta International District 6; and numerous past and current Zontians.

Kelly shared stories, including the 1960 convention when hotel rooms cost $5.65 per night. She also shared the beginnings of the annual turkey dinner fundraiser that is still in place today.

Memorabilia and photographs were displayed. All those present introduced themselves and shared a memory or two. The luncheon concluded with several selections from the madrigal choral group of Lincoln Community High School.

Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of women executives in business and the professions working together for the advancement of understanding, good will and peace.
