13-14s baseball          Send a link to a friend

[June 20, 2007]  Wal-Mart (6-2) got an exciting come-from-behind victory over a persistent Mount Pulaski team in 13-14 year-old action on Tuesday night, 12-10.

Behind 10-6 going into the bottom half of the last inning, Wal-Mart scored four to tie the game and send it to an extra inning. Zach Schleder got the rally started by beating out a throw for an infield single. With the bases loaded, Tanner Smith ripped a double to left-center to clear the bases and bring Wal-Mart within a run. With two outs, Garrett Cooper lined a triple to left field to score the tying run and extend the game.

In the bottom half of the extra frame, Josh Gill led off with a single, followed by Seth Graue's double. With runners on second and third, Jason Buckles hit a walk-off single to win the game for Wal-Mart.

Schleder, Corey Janssen and Gill had two-hit games for Wal-Mart. Smith had four RBIs on the night. Andy Krusz (2-2) pitched the only one-two-three inning to get the win in relief.

It was a gutsy performance for the Mount Pulaski team, at times playing with only eight players because of injury. Dru Houser and Jon Oberrieter had two hits each, with Houser scoring three runs. Ben McCarty and Jake Stull also had base hits for Mount Pulaski.
