Gertrude Schmitt

[June 22, 2007]  Gertrude H. Schmitt, 91, of Lincoln died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at 1:55 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lincoln, with the Rev. Dan Wissmann officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Schmitt was a retired registered nurse. She worked at Lincoln Developmental Center from 1961 to 1971 as supervisor of in-service and employee education. She also worked as a staff nurse at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born Aug. 17, 1915, at Hartsburg to Harm J. and Nettie F. Fortman Aper. She married Richard R. Schmitt on Dec. 18, 1954, in Milwaukee, Wis. He preceded her in death Sept. 25, 2005.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death, and she was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be made to Lincoln Land Community College, Gertrude H. Schmitt Scholarship Fund, Milwaukee Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, Milwaukee, Wis.
