Ethel Cox

[June 30, 2007]  Ethel Leona Smith Cox, 102, of Lincoln went home to the Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2007. She died at 3:08 a.m. at Prairie Village in Rantoul.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Beason United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dayle Eldredge officiating.

Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Beason.

Mrs. Cox enjoyed helping her husband farm, baked pies at Lincoln College and was a caregiver at Bartmann Nursing Home in rural Lincoln.

She was born July 28, 1904, in Beason as the fourth child of Humphrey and Elizabeth Smyth Smith. She married Harold Cox on Sept. 12, 1939, and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara A. (and Elbert) Gentry of White Heath; six grandchildren, Peter D. (and Carolyn) Vanderkloot of Monticello, Steven E. (and Trina) Gentry of Lino Lakes, Minn., Sean E. Vanderkloot of Coon Rapids, Minn., Susan L. (and Steven) Mercer of Chillicothe, Kimberly A. (and Chris) Patton of Monticello and Michael L. (and Breine) Gentry of Clinton; and nine great-grandchildren

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Smith; an infant brother; and three sisters, Marguerite Jett, Marie Remington and Mildred Randolph.

She was a member of Harmony Methodist Church and then of Beason United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 77 years and a past member of Logan County Home Extension.

She attended Union School, graduated from Beason High School in 1923 and attended Lincoln College.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, baking pies and sewing.

Memorials may be made to Beason United Methodist Church or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
