ATLANTA -- Charles Franklin Shaffer,
80, of Atlanta died Monday, May 7, 2007, at 12:40 p.m. at his home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. His
funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral
home, with the Rev. John Libert officiating. |
Burial, with military rites, will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Waynesville.
Mr. Shaffer was retired from farming in the
Waynesville area.
He served in the U.S. Navy from March 9, 1944, to
May 13, 1946.
He was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Waynesville to
James Cornelius and Bessie Alma Moxley Shaffer. He
married Joyce June Steiling on Jan. 28, 1950, in
Waynesville.
He is survived by his wife of Atlanta; one son,
Jeffrey W. (and Darlos) Shaffer of Paxton; one
daughter, Debra J. (and Steven) Menzel of Lincoln;
four brothers, Gary Shaffer of Mechanicsburg, Jerry
Shaffer of Waynesville, David Shafer of Waynesville
and Ronald Shaffer of Pekin; three sisters, Hazel
Vanhook of Bloomington, Jean Henry of Bloomington
and Bessie Lovell of Mendon; six grandchildren and
one stepgrandchild; and five great-grandchildren and
four step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and
three sisters. |
He was a member of Atlanta Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to Waynesville Fire
Department, Waynesville or Atlanta Methodist Church,
or Visiting Nurse Association Hospice.
