R. Kent VanTine

[November 01, 2007]  LAKE OZARK, Mo. -- Richard Kent VanTine, 62, of Four Seasons, Mo., died Oct. 25, 2007, at 10 p.m. in the intensive care unit of St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo.

A celebration of his life is scheduled for Nov. 10 at the Country Club Hotel, 301 Carol Road in Lake Ozark, with a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. and a service immediately following.

Additionally, there will be a private service in his memory aboard the Celebration cruise ship on the Lake of the Ozarks.

Arrangements are being handled by Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.

Mr. VanTine owned and operated VanTine's Feed Company restaurant with his father in Mason City, Ill., from 1974 until 1996. From 1996 until his death, he was an equity trader with VanTine Asset Management.

He served in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant. He had been recognized as Leadership Graduate of his Officer Candidate School class in 1970.

He was born June 7, 1945, in Peoria, Ill., to Richard L. and Marjorie E. VanTine. He married his best friend, Barbara Reiners, on June 20, 1987, in Lincoln, Ill.

He is survived by his wife, who was at his side at the time of his passing; his father; and two daughters of whom he was extremely proud, Austin, 18, a freshman at the University of Texas, and Jordan, 15, a sophomore at School of the Osage.

He was a 1963 graduate of Park Hill High School in Kansas City, Mo. He earned both his Bachelor of Science in business administration (1967) and his Master of Arts in geography (1969) from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

He was a lifetime member of the university's alumni association and an avid fan of the Missouri Tigers.

Among many other interests, he enjoyed bicycling, motorcycling, traveling and boating with his friends and family. He was an accomplished private pilot, having logged over 3,000 hours of flight time.

He will be remembered for his quick wit and positive spirit by all of those who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Kent VanTine Scholarship Fund, established at School of the Osage High School, c/o P.O. Box 999, Lake Ozark, MO 65049.
