Comprehensive capital plan to make critical improvements to Illinois roads, bridges and infrastructure

[October 05, 2007]  CHICAGO -- Late Wednesday, members of Illinois' congressional delegation, including U.S. Reps. Rahm Emanuel, Ray LaHood, Don Manzullo, Phil Hare and Melissa Bean, released a statement urging the Illinois General Assembly to pass Illinois Works -- a comprehensive capital program that will fund roads, bridges, transit, schools, and environment and energy projects throughout Illinois. On Thursday, Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich released the following statement thanking members for their support and expressing his eagerness to work with them to pass Illinois Works:

"We appreciate the members of the Illinois congressional delegation's support for the Illinois Works capital plan and their efforts to get members of the General Assembly to pass it. Our congressional delegation worked in a bipartisan way to secure federal funds to repair and improve our aging infrastructure. State senators of both parties came together to pass the Illinois Works plan. Now it's time for the House to come together and pass the Illinois Works plan so we can make the necessary investments to repair our aging bridges, improve our roads, build new schools and improve mass transit."
