John Bruce

[October 12, 2007]  ATLANTA -- John H. Bruce, 91, of Decatur, formerly of Atlanta, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at 7:10 a.m. in the emergency room at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur.

His funeral will be at noon Monday at Atlanta Christian Church, with Maurice Stribling officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the church.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta is handling arrangements.

Mr. Bruce retired in 1980 from Fink Automotive in Emden, where he worked as a service manager.

He was born Nov. 23, 1915, in Litchfield to Stanley and Bernice Bitter Bruce. He married Gerthel White in Petersburg on July 1, 1936.

He is survived by his wife, of Decatur; one son, Garry (and Carol) Bruce of Stanton, Va.; one daughter, Sherry (and Marvin) Hulva of Decatur; three brothers, Bob Bruce of Sorento, Dale Bruce of Virden and Maurice Bruce of Hillsboro; one sister, Jennie Crawford of Girard; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rosemary Pech.

He was a former member of the Atlanta Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a lifetime member of the Warrensburg Sportsman's Club. 

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, Macular Degeneration Foundation or American Heart Foundation.
