NORMAL -- As if the 27-14 Family
Day loss to No. 24 Western Illinois did not sting enough for the
Illinois State football team, X-rays revealed a second metacarpal
fracture in Geno Blow's left hand, prematurely ending the 2007
season for the sophomore running back. He will undergo surgery later
this week.

"I'm really disappointed for Geno; he was having a great year," head
coach Denver Johnson said. "He was on pace to rush for 1,000 yards
this season, but nonetheless, he needs to feel good about his
contribution to the football team this season. We anticipate great
things from Geno over the next two seasons.
Blow leads the team in rushing with 776 yards on the season. He
had 143 carries on the year and averaged 5.4 yards per attempt. He
also boasted a team-high eight rushing touchdowns, including the
longest run of the season for the Redbirds, a 77-yard scamper at
Youngstown State.
Illinois State travels to No. 1 North Dakota State for a 4:07
p.m. kickoff on Saturday. (Game notes)
