Widespread showers and thunderstorms were expected in Florida, with rain also likely to stretch northward along parts of the coastal Southeast.
Rain was also expected from the northern Plains to the upper Midwest.
Unseasonably cool and wet conditions were expected up and down the West Coast, with a chance of snow in the Sierra Nevadas. Strong winds in parts of California and the Great Basin were also expected.
Showers and thunderstorms were expected to creep into New Mexico.
High temperatures in parts of the Southwest and southern Plains were expected to rise into the 90s and 100s, while the Southeast was expected to experience highs in the 70s and 80s.
In the Northeast, highs were expected in the 60s, 70s and 80s, while the Northwest could expect highs in the 60s and 70s.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 25 degrees at Chelmut, Ore., to a high of 99 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
