A low pressure system sliding northeastward through California was forecast to bring winter-like weather to the state. Heavy snow warnings and snow advisories were issued for the Sierra Nevadas in anticipation of several inches of early snow. Rain was forecast for California, the Southwest, the Great Basin and the Intermountain West.
A cold front was expected to drag itself across the Ohio Valley and into the Northeast, causing rain across the East.
The Southern Plains were forecast to rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Southeast was to see temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The Northeast could rise into the 70s, while the Northwest could see temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 24 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 102 degrees at East Mesa, Ariz.
