Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Minier to celebrate 30th anniversary

[September 19, 2007] MINIER -- The friends and members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will celebrate the church's 30th anniversary at a special worship service on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The congregation has invited a former pastor, the Rev. William Chormann, as the guest preacher that morning. Pastor Chormann served Good Shepherd from 1992-1993. A meal and program will follow the service.
The congregation's roots began in 1977 when Minier residents Melvin and Verna Hallstein, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cagley, and church leaders Mrs. and Mrs. Hans Hoewisch from Lincoln organized a community canvass. With the help of Pastor Norwick of Christ Lutheran Church in Delavan, Minier area residents attended the first service of Good Shepherd, which was conducted at the Minier Grade School gymnasium on Sept. 11, 1977. Fifty-four people attended.
In 1980, church members renovated a building on Main Street and worshipped there for three years. The building is now occupied by Laughing Dog Graphics. The current building, at Garfield and Minier Avenue in Minier, was dedicated in 1992.
Since 1980, the church has enjoyed an active team ministry with sister congregation Zion Lutheran Church in Danvers, sharing the love of Jesus Christ with all.
