Drake, 59, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at her home. |
A memorial visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m.
Friday at St. John United Church of Christ. A
memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the
church, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating.
Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home is handling
arrangements.
Mrs. Drake was a small-business owner in Lincoln
of Drake Eye Care Center and of Passing Fancy, a
thrift store that she founded. She was an insurance
broker for Waddell and Reese in Springfield and
taught elementary education in Berkley.
She was born Nov. 5, 1947, in Moberly, Mo., to
John William and Clara Mae Tydings Varns. She
married George Carey Drake Jr., and he preceded her
in death. She was also preceded in death by her
parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Drake of
New Orleans, La., and her son, George Carey Drake
III of Los Angeles, Calif.
She was a member of St. John United Church of
Christ and played the organ and piano there
periodically.
She also loved to garden and be outdoors to enjoy
the beauty of nature. |
She found beauty in many things and was a "fashionista"
of sorts when it came to clothing, accessories and
cosmetics.
She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed needlework
and art of all sorts.
Memorial donations may be made to her children.
