Scattered showers and thunderstorms were anticipated from the Carolinas to southern Texas.
In the eastern Great Lakes and northern New England, snow showers were expected to taper off Wednesday morning.
Out West, light to moderate rain with isolated thunderstorms were forecast across southern Coast Ranges. By noon, precipitation was to spread across the inland areas and the Sierras. The heaviest rain was expected over the Pacific Coast Ranges and to their west between noon and dusk as the system moves ashore. The rain was to taper off Wednesday night and the storm was not expected to be felt much north of the Bay Area.
Elsewhere, light to moderate snow was expected over some of the northern Plains Wednesday morning, spreading into the upper Midwest later in the day. Scattered light snow showers should continue over the Rockies and Intermountain West.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 17 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 99 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
