In order to become a more effective program and
to be updated on changes for the upcoming year, Community Action
staff attended the Illinois Low Income Home Energy Assistance
Program conference March 26 and 27 in Peoria.
|
The conference, sponsored by the Illinois Association of Community
Action Agencies and the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family
Services Office of Energy Assistance, featured updates regarding
program and fiscal software along with outreach and more. Local
Community Action attendees at the conference were Kim Lucas,
assistant LIHEAP coordinator; Rick Campbell, LIHEAP director; Kathy
Inman, fiscal officer; and Angela Stoltzenburg, executive director.
"The conference is a great time to network and learn best
practices," Stoltzenburg said. "We at Community Action are proud of
the service we provide to over 3,000 households throughout central
Illinois. A conference like this allows us to hear what others are
doing in the state so that we can continuously improve and provide
the best service possible."
LIHEAP is designed to help eligible low-income households pay for
winter energy services by providing a one-time benefit. The amount
of the benefit is determined by income and household size. The
program is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services. Community Action also provides participants with energy
conservation tips to help lower bills.
Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois, formerly CIEDC,
is a private, nonprofit organization serving low-income individuals
