Ruth J. Tumilty, 93, of Lincoln, died
Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at 4:50 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor. |
Visitation will be from 9 until 10 a.m. Wednesday at
Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. The rosary will be
recited at 8:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial
for Mrs. Tumilty will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at
Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Pham
officiating.
Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mrs. Tumilty was active in the community as a
volunteer and club member.
She was born April 25, 1915, in Jerseyville. She
married Frank T. Tumilty on Dec. 20, 1934, in
Lincoln. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1988.
She is survived by one niece, five nephews, and
several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mrs. Tumilty was a member of Holy Family Catholic
Church; a charter member of Eagle's Auxiliary 2708,
Lincoln Council 1250 Knights of Columbus Ladies'
Auxiliary and Lincoln Heritage Chapter of ABWA; and
a member of Zonta Club of Lincoln, Women of the
Moose Chapter 1109 and Orphan's Home Rebekah Lodge
9, IOOF. She was also a member of Lincoln Elks Lodge
914 Supreme Emblem Club for many years and a 54-year
member of the American Legion Auxiliary. |
She served as a board member and volunteer for many
years at The Oasis senior center. She was also a
volunteer for the Lincoln Youth Center and Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital. During World War II, she
served as a Gray Lady of the American Red Cross at
St. Clara's Hospital in Lincoln. She was also a
volunteer for many years for the Red Cross
bloodmobile in Lincoln. She served as an election
judge in Lincoln for many years.
She graduated from Jerseyville High School in
1934.
