[August 19, 2008]  NEW YORK (AP) -- The reputed acting boss of the Gambino organized crime family has been put behind bars for two years as part of a plea deal.

John "Jackie Nose" D'Amico (duh-MEE'-koh) was sentenced Monday in New York. He pleaded guilty in May to extorting a cement company.

In February, more than 60 reputed members and associates of the Gambino crime family were charged with murder, drug trafficking, robberies, extortion and other crimes dating back to the 1970s.

D'Amico's attorney had requested less prison time because of his client's age and poor health.

A prosecutor argued the 71-year-old didn't deserve mercy because he chose to commit crimes at such an advanced age.
