Just west of Fay, storms were expected in the Lower Mississippi Valley and were to extend northward into the Upper Mississippi Valley. Showers and possible thunderstorms were expected in states along the Mississippi River and the Upper Great Lakes region.
Meanwhile, stormy weather in the Northwest was to trek eastward. Showers and thunderstorms were forecast for western Montana and North Dakota.
The Pacific Northwest was to see showers early Friday morning but remain dry for the rest of the day.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from 35 degrees at Kremmling, Colo., to 116 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
