John Overbey

[December 29, 2008]  John A. Overbey, 74, of Lincoln, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at 12:27 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

His body was cremated. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mr. Overbey was a retired carpenter and plumber. He had worked for Webster Construction in Lincoln.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Sikeston, Mo., to Ira B. and Myrtle McGeath Overbey. He married Marian Ruth Pfeifer on June 29, 1956, in Lincoln. She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 2003.

He is survived by two sons, Ronald Bree of Lincoln and Ralph (and Nancy) Bree of Lincoln; two sisters, Joanne Overbey and June Sprague, both of Lincoln; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

He was a member of Holy Family Church of Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Logan County.
