Heavy rain and strong thunderstorms were expected east of the Mississippi Valley, mainly through the Southeast. There is also a risk of tornadoes.
Significant snow was likely from eastern Kansas through Michigan, and heavy rain expected through the upper Mississippi and Ohio valleys.
As the storm moves into the Northeast, New England will receive a mixture of rain, snow and freezing rain.
Wet weather will continue through the West. Significant snow was anticipated through the Intermountain West and into the Northern Rockies. Another Pacific storm was expected to slam into the Northwest, bringing rain and high-elevation snow to Washington and Oregon Wednesday evening and overnight.
The Northeast will rise into the 30s, 40s and 50s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The Upper Midwest will rise into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 30s and 40s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 27 degrees at Boulder, Wyo., to a high of 99 degrees at Hebronville, Texas.
